I love this one. It's interesting how quickly an audience can switch loyalties. Are there other generalities you've learned about comedy audiences? Or is it unpredictable every time? I think if I heckled a heckler, I'd go overboard and lose the crowd's goodwill. Or awkwardly ignore the heckler and earn the crowd's pity. Ole!
So so many generalities. Friday late show tends to be the worst crowd of the week, for example. Is it because they worked all day, and then had time to get drunk before coming to your show? But there is an always an element of unpredictability of course, and thats where a well managed club makes such a difference.
I've seen comics go too far and the crowd starts to feel bad for the person being eviscerated.
dear keith,
thank you for sharing all of this! delightful!
i agree with this very much: "I’d really prefer both bulls and comedians be left alone to live according to their nature."
and i really like the “DOUG IS AN IMPORTANT PERSON!” / “DOUG IS DESERVING OF OUR LOVE AND ATTENTION!” method of dealing with hecklers/dougs!
thanks for sharing! great piece!
much love

Thanks Myq! Freakin' Doug, am I right?
